  1. Welcome To The New Site!!

    May 5, 2012 by Lee

From behind the curtain fast and feverishly working late hours, I want to personally welcome you to the all new Glassic Boatworks Website. The site, as well as the company’s new logo have been months in the making. While I had my hand in the input and “tweaking” I traveled halfway around the world (via the web) to find the extremely talented Jessica Goss (Jess) in Adelaide, South Australia. It was Jess who wanted the challenge of doing an “extreme makeover” to my site and who is the brains behind the artwork. She hit a home run with the design and ease of navigation while providing a clean and uncluttered look! It’s truly fantastic and you are telling us!! We still have quite a lot of content to upload, so be patient, but I wanted to particularly focus your attention on some new features.

First the site is very smartphone friendly. The display size of the pages was intentionally designed to fit most of today’s smartphones. The speed of loading and content size makes mobile navigation a breeze. Next is The Booking Calendar. Fully user interactive, you can select a day or weekend, fill out the form, and submit. This puts the day in “Pending” block until Heather approves the request. Once approved, you get an email confirming it! Just one of the many ways we are striving to make life a bit easier. Enjoy the site, be sure to comment as you wish with new ideas and we’ll do our best!! Thanks as always for being the greatest customers in the world! From here, you can either simply scroll down and look at projects, or look to your right and select what you want to see,  Don’t forget our Facebook and Twitter sites as well. (Top left)  Now sit back and Enjoy!

  2. Northern Star’s Extreme Makeover

    May 5, 2012 by Lee

Every Summer, The owners of Northern Star, a 1969 Chris Craft Commander 38 express, located in Annapolis, MD.  go over their wish list, and we start planning. All during the summer months, Phone Calls, parts sourcing, brainstorming, discussing the “what if’s” and seeing what will logistically fit into the schedule. Generally we have about 5 months on the hard to work with. Take out work schedules, holidays, and other logistical hurdles and it usually works down to about 3-4 weekends on average. yes that’s about 10 days or so of actual Hand’s On work. The owners and I work side by side. we work til we drop,, maximizing every hour possible, and get an incredible amount of work done in one weekend. We make an incredible team, and the running joke is that by Sunday we all have to go back to our “real jobs” to rest up!. For the past two years it’s been all about getting her “reliable”. The first two years of ownership were bumpy at best, never getting a good cruising weekend without something going amiss and scrubbing the plans. This year it was a bit different. After describing to me they had “by far the best cruising year yet” they were ready to kick it up a notch and start updating systems and working on some of the “neat stuff” along with still reducing the possibility of a “stressful incident” if at all possible. This year’s list, and the pictures below include:  1) Complete update of the 12 volt distribution system. 2) Rebuilding the Stbd Side heat exchanger that was failing on us at season’s end. 3) Adding a “house bank” of batteries, to increase the battery capacity for multiple overnight stays. 4) Wire in the DC side of the dual voltage refrigerator aboard. 5) Replacing the “never working right” cable driven Tachometers, for new Electronic Tachs. 6) Taking off the small aftermarket steering wheel and having he parts made to re-install the original “destroyer” wheel,  7) Rehabbing the on board Hot water Heater and Plumbing it to the engine for underway Hot Water  8) Repairing the original Engine Room Lighting to work again, and finally finish completely mapping the entire electrical system by hand, and labeling any circuits that were “unidentified”.  I’m Happy to report that over the span of 5 weekends, we managed to accomplished ALL except for the HW heater plumbing to the engine (But it’s ready to be done and will be done shortly).  As well as all of this, Fred, a Master at wood working, and finishing, combined his talents with mine to really create some exciting and beautiful pieces. (The new electrical cabinet, The helm, and the Swim platform with new Snap Davits blocks for their Tender) Here’s to another fabulous season to Northern Star and her owners, and the plans are already beginning for next Winter.  Enjoy the Pictures and click on each thumbnail to get the full view!!

  4. A/C Install on a 31′ Cruiser

    April 17, 2012 by Lee

Installing a 16.5k BTU Air Conditioning system on a 31′ cruiser can have major headaches in the process. Placement, and all the millions of different criteria make it a challenge. This job was about Teamwork. The owner and myself worked together on this from start to finish starting with about 3 weeks of planning and processing, as well as sourcing parts, and measuring, measuring and even more measuring. We wanted to install the unit under the forward dinette seat on a 31′ Commander Express.  In the end, we still came up about 1/8″ short and ended up cutting a wall to make it work. The truth be said, we were going to knock a 7″ hole to pass the duct through anyway so we made it a bit bigger!  All in all a fabulous, and hard working weekend, but mission accomplished  (2 days)  Enjoy the photos!  Now… Where can we serve you today??

  6. CORRECT Diagnosis Is The Key To Good Service!!

    November 11, 2011 by Lee

Alot of times we tell our customers that the majority of our work is in testing and proper diagnosis. This job was not an exception. This job was a new customer to us referred by another service company who isn’t mobile. The problem? A Carver Yachts 322 with 350 Crusader XL’s acting Under-powered and not performing well at all.  Two other service companies were out there before us. One diagnosed it as “in need of a good tuneup” the other….a bad transmission.  As in most “performance related” situations we go through a battery of tests first. Compression test, Cylinder elimination test (running) and fluid checks. (Not for level as much as contamination).  This yacht showed us immediately that it had serious internal issues with respect to the cylinders on the Port engine. Our diagnosis was a blown head gasket on one side of the Port engine, and that once opened could be other issues as well related to the heads. The key here was that by taking the time to show the customer the actual testing process and the results they yielded gave him the confidence we had the right diagnosis. It would just now be a matter if the heads would be ok once the surgery has begun.  A “Top End” job was performed and the heads sent out to Harrington’s Machine in Taylorsville, NC. to be tested and ultimately machined to “true up” the sealing surfaces. OEM Marine Grade gaskets installed, and the engine reassembled.  We also as a precaution disassembled the heat exchanger to be assured it would not recreate the issue as this type of failure is generally caused by overheating.  Today, Another very happy customer on the water, and will “advertise” for us as well.  Enjoy the pictures as they tell the story!!

  7. Re-Powering a Mastercraft

    August 20, 2011 by Lee

From time to time, we get a neat call. The one where the customer says ” I want you to set this job up exactly like you would if it was your boat!” It’s always a good feeling to tell the new client, :That’s the only way I work!”  This job was a really nice, and fun project. Took about 3 weeks total and the boat was an absolute rocket from the word go! Call us for your Re-Power needs!  You’d be surprised what this little company can handle!

  8. Upgrading the Icebox to a Fridge

    June 18, 2011 by Lee

In a late 60′s Chris Craft Commander, the Icebox has an antiquated old cold unit. The owner wants something reliable, reasonable, and to not have to buy ice every few hours. We accomodated him with an Adler Barbour Super Cold Machine. Mounting space was also interesting but we were able to get the job done in a day and a half tearing out the old unit. Cleaning and painting as well as building a custom shelf under a bunk for the new unit to ride. The outcome is both functional and hidden.  Enjoy the pictures!  Call us for your custom installation needs!

  9. This stumped 3 companies! (But not us!)

    May 19, 2011 by Lee

Ever seen a hose separate from the inside? This one repeatedly burned Exhaust hoses and impellers. After 3 different companies failed to find the problem, we got a shot at it. Well, we found it!!

  10. 410 Exhaust System Conversion

    May 17, 2011 by Lee

The Challenge: Exhaust manifolds need to be replaced aboard a Chris Craft 410 Flush deck. The old style NLA manifolds are no longer made and the 410 has a deck clearance that needs to be taken into consideration. The Fix, is shown in this album.
