Ethanol and Boats! “Epic Fail”

Ethanol, in simple terms!  Burns clean, Subsidizes traditional gas to “reduce” consumption of oil.  In your car?  No big deal. You put gas in your car every 2-3 days therefore the fuel virtually never sits.  In your boat? Bad News. Ethanol gas or E-10  has a shelf life of no more than 3 months. Add to that Ethanol Infused Gasoline is very sensitive to water, in that one tablespoon can wreak havoc, cause phase separation, and develop that nasty gooey tarry type substance that will shut you down! Bottom Line: Use Ethanol Free fuel in your boat, or use an Ethanol designed treatment, such as Valvtect products.  Below are some pictures I took of the gooey phase separation on a job I recently did.
